We Remember…

1 John 3:16 says, “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.  And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.”

Our call to love one another comes from the example of Jesus Christ loving us despite our brokenness and sin.  If he (God in the flesh) could love us, can we love one another?  It is a humbling call of self-sacrifice, finding life when we lose it -finding hope in something bigger than ourselves.  It is the glue of every community -honoring others above ourselves.

This is why we have chosen to honor the men and women who serve our community -those who risk their lives for our safety and the protection of our children.  Who run into harm’s way when the rest of us are running away.  What better way to remember the heroes of 9/11/2001 than by honoring the heroes of 9/11/2011?

We invite everyone to join us for a special memorial service on September 11, 2011 beginning at 10:25 am.  It will be a time of remembrance of ten years ago, and a time of reminding ourselves of the hope and peace found in Jesus Christ through all the ages.  We have invited the men and women (and their families) of the Maryland Heights Police Department and Fire Department to join us for this special service.

Additionally, the Annual Ne-O-Tez Volleyball Tournament will be held that afternoon and all of the food is donated by the Maryland Heights Church of Christ.  In the past, 100% of the funds raised have gone to support Camp Ne-O-Tez.  This year, we have invited the Police Department and Fire Department (and their families) to join us for lunch for free.  It is a wonderful opportunity to reflect Christ to the community and give a well-deserved, “Thanks” to the people who reflect Christ to us.
