Helping Kids Find Joy In Times of Trouble

This has been a time of trouble for a lot of us, but how many of us can say it’s also been a time of joy?  Believe it or not, that’s what the Bible says it should be.  During this week’s family worship experience, we’ll discover why the Book of James tells us we should be joyful in the middle of our troubles.

When it’s time to begin, start your morning of family worship by watching the short lesson video with your kids.  (You can access the YouTube playlist here.)  It’s a great way to engage spiritually with your family.  And don’t forget to participate in the worship videos from Yancy afterwards—one song is for older kids and one is for younger kids.

In all honesty, this is a hard lesson to master.  As simple as the concept is, it can be very challenging to find joy in times of trouble.  Remember,  "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning, great is HIS faithfulness."  (Lamentations 3:22-23)  This was written to God's people when times were difficult.  Let this powerful promise sink deep in your heart and offer peace and joy during these trying times.

And don't forget to share your pictures with all the other kids at Maryland Heights! You will find the link to the private photo page in the email we send out, or you can email us to get the special link.  Remember no matter wherever you are we can still worship God together.

Schedule for the Week of August 2

  • Bible Story: Joy and Wisdom in Times of Trouble (James 1:2-5)
  • Big Idea: God calls us to seek Him for wisdom in times of trouble.
  • Memory Verse: “If any of you needs wisdom, you should ask God for it. He will give it to you. God gives freely to everyone and doesn’t find fault.” James 1:5 (NIrV)

Five Ways to Participate this Summer

Bible Stories

Each week we feature a different Bible story that you can read and talk about with your children.  God says His word is a lamp to guide us and there is great power in just reading a Bible story together and hearing your children talk about what it means to them.  It gets them in the word and keep us there as well, so be looking each week for the featured Bible story and spend time sharing it with your children.

Teaching/Worship Videos

We have links to great videos that help teach the lesson and talk about ways our children can apply its principles.  PLUS, there are great worship videos with songs tailored just for their hearts.  We'll send you links each week for these videos OR you can click on the links below to view the videos for that week.

Games and Activities

Kid's learn best when doing, so each Monday we'll send you an email with the activities for that week.  We've got something your children can do on almost every day of the week.  You can download the activity sheets  from our email or click on the links below to download that week's activities.  Make copies for your children and even share them with their friends in the neighborhood.

Special Weeks Each Month

We're excited about the special weeks each month when we will have outdoor activities for the whole family.  It's also a great time to invite some neighborhood friends to enjoy the outdoor fun.  We'll have more details later about these special weeks, but we know you and your children will enjoy them.

Share Your Photos and Videos

We may not be able to meet together, but we still love seeing one another.  We encourage you to post photos and videos of your children doing their "Take Out" activities. Check Your E-Connections email for the link to post or view photos on our PRIVATE photo sharing site.

Be Watching For Our Emails

We'll send out emails on Fridays and Mondays each week with links to videos and activities, or you can always come here to find the links and downloads for that week's material.  But they will only be available for one week so you're encouraged to use the materials with your children the week they are posted or save the links for later use.
